Devotional reading forms

Stotra, Chalisa and Aarti

Recognise the form of a prayer before choosing a daily reading routine.

Devotional reading includes different forms: a stotra of praise, a chalisa in its familiar forty-verse form, an aarti sung during worship and prayers of surrender or forgiveness.

They are not all the same textual category, and their role may vary by household tradition. A practical companion should state which text is chosen, provide it completely and explain the action associated with it.

Our Durga web overview names the chosen sequence, while the full Sanskrit–Hindi manuscript contains the corresponding devotional texts. This introductory page does not replace those complete prayers or imply every family must follow one routine.
