The Bhagavad Gita is a dialogue between Krishna and Arjuna within the Mahabharata. Its eighteen chapters explore action, knowledge, devotion and other connected questions of spiritual life.
Read a verse with the situation around it. The Sanskrit wording, a translator’s rendering and a commentator’s interpretation should be identified separately, because different traditions may explain the same verse differently.
This beginner page introduces the reading approach. It does not claim to provide the complete Gita or every school’s commentary. Our future paired editions will show original text, Hindi and English meanings and clearly named interpretive notes.
