Ramcharitmanas is Tulsidas’s devotional telling of Rama’s story. It is a named work in its own poetic and religious tradition, rather than a word-for-word Hindi translation of Valmiki’s Sanskrit epic.
For a reader, the useful distinction is between the original passage, an explanation in modern Hindi or English, and a later storyteller’s adaptation. Keeping those layers visible preserves clarity.
This page introduces that reading approach. Complete passages, meanings and a reviewed study edition are planned. The publisher reference below helps identify available religious editions; its modern translations are not copied into this preview.
