Rigveda

An introduction to the hymns and their place in the Vedic family.

The Rigveda is one of the four Vedas. Its Samhita is a collection of hymns, traditionally transmitted with carefully preserved sound and recitation.

A meaningful study begins by naming the recension and arrangement being used. The Vedic Heritage Portal distinguishes, for example, the Shakala tradition and arrangements such as Mandala Krama and Ashtaka Krama.

This page is a reading orientation, not a complete Rigveda translation or recitation lesson. A future edition should keep the Sanskrit text, translation, interpretation and recitation guidance distinct.
