Samhitas

Collections of hymns, mantras and ritual formulas, with different forms across the Vedas.

A Samhita is a collection. Across Vedic traditions, the collections contain hymns, mantras, chants or ritual formulas in differing arrangements.

The Rigveda is organised into mandalas and hymns. The Samaveda is closely associated with singing traditions. Yajurvedic and Atharvavedic collections have their own recensions and forms; a single short definition cannot describe all their content.

The planned library will link beginner introductions to named editions. Original text, translation and interpretive notes will be separate layers.
