Kartik Purnima is the full moon of Kartika. It ends the month of Kartika bathing that many begin on Sharad Purnima, and closes Bhishma Panchak, the five days from Prabodhini Ekadashi. Dev Deepawali, “the Diwali of the gods”, is celebrated on the ghats of Varanasi, remembering Shiva’s victory over the demon Tripurasura.

One festival, many traditions

In Sikh families this is also Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab (Gurpurab), 24 November 2026 by Drik Panchang; some Sikh historians date his birth to Vaisakh instead. Some Hindu families hold a Satyanarayan katha on this full moon. Customs of bathing, lamps and giving vary; follow your family.
